About Smart Packing
Smart Packing is an item packing assistant that determines the best way to pack an order. ShipHawk uses an item’s weight, dimensions, characteristics and business-specific rules to pack items into boxes and boxes onto pallets. Within the Product Catalog section of this manual you will find the specifics of catalog fields and their role within the Smart Packing feature. Below you will find the specifics for Smart Packing operability and recommendations.
- Product Catalog - In order for an item to be rated and/or used within the Smart Packing feature it must have a corresponding sku within the ShipHawk product catalog.
- Packing Materials - Smart Packing will look at any available box sizes that are available within ShipHawks material list. To best serve our customers and optimize Smart Packing all available boxes should be available within the materials list.
- Item Type - All items within the product catalog need to be set to an item type of ‘Unpacked’. This will be the indicator to ShipHawk that you need assistance to pack the order.
- Weight - In order for any proposed shipment to be presented with a rate the product catalog must include weights for all items.
- Dimensions - If dimensions are not set Smart Packing will not be able to determine or recommend a box size.
About Product Catalog
ShipHawk lets you store product sku information to add shipping details during shipment processing. By bringing product data into ShipHawk, ShipHawk can make better smart packing, rating and fulfillment decisions and eliminate data entry errors.
Product SKU concepts
ShipHawk collects two types of information from a product: product data and product shipping data. Product data refers to basic information that has no impact on shipping. Product shipping data refers to aspects of the item that will impact how it is shipped. Shipping data includes the following.
- Dimensions and weight
- Serialized or lotted
- Inventory item or kit
- Tariff codes and freight classes
Product SKU Page Details
Each product record within ShipHawk consists of three sections with their own specific information. Information should be mapped / entered correctly so as to avoid errors and maintain item record / system consistency. Details as follows:
