This tutorial will instruct on how to zip and unzip files.
Overview
Occasionally files will need to be zipped or unzipped based on data transfer methods. Zipping files is the method of compressing multiple files into a single file. While unzipping is the method of extracting multiple files from a previously zipped file. This manual will guide you through the steps of zipping and unzipping files. This instruction guide is broken into two parts: Windows Operating Systems, and MacOS.
Requirements
- Windows Operating System or MacOS
Windows Operating System - Zipping Files / Unzipping Files
Zipping Files
- Locate file explorer on Windows taskbar.

- Locate the files you want to zip(compress). While holding the Ctrl button down click on each file and verify they have been highlighted. Right click on any of the highlighted files and select the Send to option. From there select Compressed (zipped) folder.

- You should now have a folder with a .zip file extension. If you wish to change the name of the newly zipped folder, right click and select Rename.

Unzipping Files
- Locate File Explorer on Windows taskbar.

- Locate the file you want to unzip(decompress), which will have a .zip file extension.

- Right-click on the file.
- Select Extract All on the menu.

- On the next pop-up screen, select where you want Windows to unload the files by clicking on the Browse button.

- Once you choose a location, click the Select Folder Button.

- Finally, click the Extract button.

MacOS- Zipping Files / Unzipping Files
Zipping Files
- Hold down the mouse or trackpad to draw a box around all the files you want to compress. Alternatively, press the Command button while tapping the trackpad or while pressing the mouse button on to select files
- Right-click or press Control + Tap and select Compress on the pop-up menu.

- A new, single archive will appear in the folder with a .zip file extension.
- To rename the default .zip file name, simply right-click or press Control + Tap on the archive and select Rename.

Unzipping Files
- Double-click on the file, and it automatically unzips. Alternatively, right-click, hover over open with on the pop-up menu, and then choose Archive Utility.

- MacOS will automatically create a new folder containing the unzipped(decompressed) files in the same location as the zip file.
